When I see Dave in the lounge room half an hour later, my face goes bright red. “I’m so sorry.”

“You gave me the fright of my life.” Dave laughs. “But don’t worry. I’ll get you back.”

“Get me back? But it was a total accident.”

“That may be so. But a fright like that still deserves revenge.”

I put my hands on my cheeks. “Should I be worried?”

“Possibly. But actually, it’s probably more Toby who should be concerned.”

“Toby? Why?”

“Well, now you’ve seen what a perfect male specimen looks like, how can he possibly compare?”

I laugh. “No problem there.”

Dave gasps. “That can’t be right.” He runs his hand through his hair. “Oh, I get it. You’re saying that so Toby doesn’t feel bad. Don’t worry.” He winks. “I won’t tell. But yeah, you should maybe be a little worried.”

I shake my head and laugh as Dave walks off.
